THE TEACHINGS OF MARY BAKER EDDY
“Except ye
be born again”
Jesus once answered Nicodemus, a ruler of
the Jews, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
He didn’t know what Jesus meant by this answer. Do you?
Are we to enter in to our mothers’ womb again? Jesus told him he was to be born of the
water and of the spirit. How are we to
do that?
Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and
Founder of Christian Science, to whom this website is dedicated, speaks to this
necessity to be born again. In her book
Miscellaneous Writings, she states, “The new birth is not the work of a moment.
It begins with moments, and goes on with years; moments of surrender to God, of
childlike trust and joyful adoption of good; moments of self-abnegation,
self-consecration, heaven-born hope, and spiritual love.” (p.15)
She then adds, “Only through the sore travail of mortal mind shall soul
as sense be satisfied, and man awake in His likeness. What a faith-lighted
thought is this! That mortals can lay off the ‘old man,’ until man is found to
be the image of the infinite good that we name God, and the fulness of the
stature of man in Christ appears.” This
is what Jesus is referring to about being born again. Every day we have the joyous opportunity to
learn more of His tender, constant care.
Father-Mother God is revealing our true nature to us. He is showing us how He created us and how we
are able to put off the ‘old man’ with his deeds of hate, discouragement and
fear and put on the ‘new man’ in his perfect state of love, health and
wholeness as revealed through the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker
Eddy.

religious codes; equalizes the sexes; annuls the curse on man, and leaves
nothing that can sin, suffer, be punished or destroyed.” (Science and Health 340:23-29)
